Account Deletion Policy
Your data, your choice. This policy explains how to delete your Weavid account, what happens to your data, your rights under GDPR, and what you need to know before proceeding. We respect your right to be forgotten.
⚠️ Account Deletion is Permanent and Irreversible
Once you confirm deletion, your account and data will be permanently removed within 30 days. This process cannot be undone. Make sure you've backed up any content you want to keep before proceeding.
🚧 Early Access / Beta Testing Notice
During early access and beta testing, some features described on this page may not be fully implemented. Account deletion processes are functional, but timing and procedures may be refined during testing. If you encounter any issues with account deletion during beta, contact contact@weavid.com for immediate assistance.
1. Who Can Delete Their Account?
You can delete your account at any time, unless your account is temporarily restricted due to:
Temporary Deletion Holds
- Active Abuse Investigation: If your account is involved in an active abuse investigation, deletion is temporarily paused until the investigation concludes. This prevents evidence destruction and protects the integrity of our moderation process.
- Fraud Investigation: If your account is under review for suspected fraud, Terms of Service violations, or coordinated inauthentic behavior.
- Legal Hold: If your account is subject to a valid legal request, court order, subpoena, or law enforcement preservation request.
- CSAM Investigation: If your account is involved in a child sexual abuse material investigation. Such accounts are permanently banned and reported to law enforcement; deletion is not available.
🚨 Evidence Tampering Detection
If you attempt to delete your account within 24 hours of an abuse report being filed against you, our review team will receive an urgent alert. All deletion attempts are logged and audited with timestamps, IP addresses, and device information. Attempting to destroy evidence during an investigation is a serious violation and may result in additional legal consequences.
Notification of Deletion Holds
If deletion is blocked, we will notify you:
- In-App Alert: When you attempt deletion, you'll see a notice explaining why it's blocked
- Email Notification: Sent to your registered email within 24 hours
- Estimated Resolution: We'll provide an estimated timeline for when deletion will become available
- Status Updates: You can check the status of investigations in Settings → Account → Deletion Status
Once the investigation or legal matter concludes, you will be able to proceed with account deletion. In most cases, investigations resolve within 5-7 business days. Complex cases or those involving law enforcement may take up to 30 days or longer.
2. How to Delete Your Account
Method 1: In-App Deletion (Recommended)

Open the Weavid App
Go to your profile by tapping your avatar in the bottom navigation bar.

Access Settings
Tap the settings gear icon in the top right corner of your profile.

Navigate to Account Management
Scroll down to "Account Management" and tap "Delete Account" (it's at the bottom of the settings page).

Review the Warning
Carefully read the information about what will be deleted and confirm you understand this action is permanent and irreversible.

Verify Your Identity
For security purposes, you'll need to re-enter your password to confirm you're the account owner.

Confirm Deletion
Type "DELETE" (all caps) in the confirmation box to confirm. Your account will be immediately deactivated and scheduled for permanent deletion.

Receive Confirmation
You'll receive a confirmation email. If you change your mind, you have 24 hours to cancel the deletion by logging back in.
24-Hour Grace Period
Your account is immediately deactivated (invisible to others), but data deletion doesn't start until 24 hours after your request. If you change your mind within this window, you can log back in to cancel the deletion. After 24 hours, the process becomes irreversible.
Method 2: Email Request (If You Can't Access the App)
If you've lost access to the app or your device, you can request deletion via email:
Subject Line: "Account Deletion Request"
Required Information:
- Your username or user ID
- The email address registered to your account
- A clear statement: "I request permanent deletion of my Weavid account"
- Reason for deletion (optional, but helps us improve)
Identity Verification
For security, we may ask you to verify your identity by:
- Responding from the email address registered to your account
- Answering security questions
- Providing a government-issued photo ID (in rare cases where other verification isn't possible)
Processing Time
- Initial Response: Within 1 business day
- Verification & Approval: 2-3 business days
- Deletion Initiated: Once verified, deletion begins immediately (30-day full deletion timeline)
⚠️ Email Requests Take Longer
In-app deletion is instant. Email requests require manual verification and take 2-3 business days to process. If you have app access, use Method 1 for faster deletion.

Data Minimization Principle
We retain only the smallest set of data necessary for legal compliance, and only for the shortest period required by law. Retained data is encrypted, access-controlled, and cannot be used for any purpose other than legal compliance.
Special Cases
Groups You Created
If you're the sole creator/admin of a group:
- Before Deletion: You'll be prompted to transfer ownership to another member
- No Transfer Possible: If you can't or don't transfer, the group will be deleted 7 days after your account deletion
- Member Notification: All group members will be notified of the pending group deletion with 7 days' notice
- Group Content: All posts and content within the group will be deleted when the group is deleted
Content Others Downloaded
- If others have downloaded or saved your videos/images to their devices, we cannot remove those copies
- Your content is removed from Weavid's servers, but local copies on others' devices remain
- Watermarks (with your @username) remain on downloaded content
Direct Messages (E2EE)
- Because DMs are end-to-end encrypted, each user has their own encrypted copy
- We delete your copies of all conversations
- Recipients keep their copies — we cannot delete messages from their devices
- You will disappear from their conversation list, but the messages remain readable on their end
Subscriptions & Purchases
- Active Subscriptions: Immediately cancelled; you won't be charged again
- No Refunds: Per our Terms of Service, no refunds for partial billing periods or unused time
- In-App Purchases: Points, items, and pets are deleted; no refunds
- Manage Separately: To cancel subscription without deleting account, go to Settings → Subscriptions

Why Does It Take 30 Days?
We operate distributed storage systems with encrypted backups across multiple European regions (Germany, Switzerland, France). Complete removal requires:
- All backup cycles to complete (backups are created hourly, daily, and weekly)
- Data to be purged from all database replicas
- Media files to be deleted from multi-region CDN storage
- Search indexes to be rebuilt without your data
This ensures your data is truly gone, not just hidden or "soft deleted." We prioritize complete removal over speed.
What You'll See During Deletion
- Day 1: Account deactivated; profile invisible; cannot log in
- Days 2-3: Posts and videos disappear from feeds and profiles
- Days 4-7: Your @username disappears from searches and mentions
- Days 8-14: Comments and interactions fully removed from all posts
- Days 15-30: Final purge from backups; complete data removal
Username Availability
- Your username is reserved for 90 days after account deletion
- This prevents impersonation and gives you time to reconsider
- After 90 days, your username becomes available for new users to register
- You cannot reclaim your username after deletion (account deletion is permanent)
5. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I recover my account after deletion?
No. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once you confirm deletion and the 24-hour grace period passes, your account, data, and content cannot be restored under any circumstances. Make absolutely sure before proceeding.
What happens to my posts and videos?
All your public content is deleted from our servers within 1-3 days. However:
- If others downloaded or saved your content before deletion, we cannot remove those copies from their devices
- Watermarks (with your @username) remain on any downloaded content
- If your content was shared to other platforms (Twitter, Instagram, etc.), we cannot remove it from those platforms
What happens to my direct messages?
Your copies of all DMs are deleted. However, because DMs are end-to-end encrypted:
- Recipients keep their own encrypted copies (we cannot delete messages from their devices)
- You will disappear from their conversation list
- The messages remain readable on their end
- This is how E2EE works: each user controls their own encrypted data
Will my username be available for someone else?
Yes, after 90 days. Your username is reserved for 90 days after deletion to prevent impersonation. After that, it becomes available for new users to register. You cannot reclaim it.
What if deletion is blocked due to an investigation?
If your account is involved in an active abuse investigation, fraud investigation, or subject to a legal hold:
- We'll notify you in-app and via email explaining why deletion is paused
- We'll provide an estimated timeline for resolution (typically 5-30 days)
- You can check status in Settings → Account → Deletion Status
- Once the investigation concludes, you can proceed with deletion

Can I delete specific content instead of my entire account?
Yes! You can delete individual posts, videos, comments, and messages from within the app without deleting your entire account:
- Posts/Videos: Tap the post → Options menu → Delete
- Comments: Tap your comment → Delete
- DMs: Long-press message → Delete (or delete entire conversation)
- Likes/Saves: Unlike or unsave items individually
Only use full account deletion if you want to leave Weavid entirely.
Will third-party caches still have my content?
Possibly, temporarily:
- Search engines (Google, Bing) may have cached copies of your public profile or posts
- Web archives (Internet Archive) may have snapshots
- These caches expire automatically over time (typically 30-90 days)
- You can contact search engines directly to request cache removal:
How long does the deletion process actually take?
- Immediate deactivation: Within minutes of confirmation
- Visible deletion: Your profile and content disappear from the app within 1-3 days
- Complete removal: All data deleted from all systems within 30 days
Most users will see their data "gone" within a few days, but complete removal across all backups and replicas takes up to 30 days.
What happens to groups I created?
If you're the sole creator/admin of a group:
- During deletion, you'll be prompted to transfer ownership to another member
- If you don't transfer or can't (no other members), the group will be deleted 7 days after your account deletion
- Group members will be notified of the pending deletion with 7 days to export content
- All group posts and content will be deleted when the group is deleted
What about my Pet Premium subscription?
If you have an active subscription:
- Subscription is immediately cancelled when you delete your account
- You won't be charged again
- No refunds for partial months or unused time (per our Terms of Service)
- Better option: Cancel subscription separately (Settings → Subscriptions) without deleting your account, if you just want to stop paying
Can I temporarily deactivate instead of deleting?
Yes! If you want a break without permanent deletion:
- Go to Settings → Account → Deactivate Account (Temporary)
- Your profile becomes invisible
- Your data is preserved
- You can reactivate by logging back in at any time
- No time limit on how long you can stay deactivated
What if I change my mind?
- Within 24 hours: Log back into the app to cancel deletion (easy recovery)
- After 24 hours: Too late — deletion cannot be cancelled or reversed
- After 30 days: All data is permanently gone; no recovery possible
Will I receive confirmation?
Yes, multiple confirmations:
- Immediately: In-app confirmation screen
- Within 1 hour: Email confirmation (with 24-hour cancellation link)
- After 24 hours: Email confirming deletion has started (irreversible point)
- After 30 days: Final email confirming complete data removal
6. Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are in the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, account deletion is one of several rights you have under GDPR:
Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten")
This policy implements your GDPR right to erasure:
- You can delete your account and data at any time, for any reason
- No justification or explanation required
- We will delete your data within 30 days (as described above)
- Exceptions apply only for legal obligations (audit logs, financial records, legal holds)
